Birthdays are a huge deal in our house and we go all out!
Months ago I asked Alexis what theme she wanted for her birthday. Without hesitation she said a Rapunzel party! Not surprising at all... =)
I turned to Pinterest and got ALL of my ideas from there. I looked at hundreds of other mama blogs about their daughters Rapunzel parties and wrote down bits and pieces from all of them that I liked and then made it our own.
Cory gave my a budget of $200 for the whole party and I am pleased to say that I DID IT! (I believe the final price was $211, but hey that's close enough!) I was quite pleased with myself.
Here is her Rapunzel party!
I got the Rapunzel dress from a shop on Etsy. It was only $30!
It even had a little Pascal embroidered on it, love those small details! It made Alexis very happy!
There is something about a pretty cake table that makes my heart happy! I bought table cloths from Party City and used those for a "backdrop". I used my backdrop stand to hold it. I also got the yellow lanterns from Party City.
I ordered the cupcakes from King Soopers and decided to keep them very simple and plain to save on costs. I ordered 50 cupcakes for only $20! Half white/half chocolate. I decided to jazz them up a bit and added some flowers that I bought at Hobby Lobby. They were really yummy cupcakes!
I got this idea from Pinterest. A cheap way to make a Princess tower and to add to the cake table. I glued a wooden dowel onto a wooden base and simply stacked the donuts on top of each other and added the birthday hat. I got green icing and very quickly added some greenery to the tower!
I got these Rapunzel printables from a shop on Etsy for only $2! I printed them on card stock at home and put them in these dollar store frames that I use for every birthday party!
Party favors are one of my favorite things to put together for birthday parties! I wasn't sure what I was going to do and had a lot of ideas floating threw my head until I was browsing the dollar section at Target and found these little paint cans for $1/each. Perfect for the Rapunzel story! (I had a gift card to Target so I technically got these for free!)
I stuffed them with rubber ducky keychains (ordered off of Amazon) little Rapunzel paint sets that I got at Party City, combs from the dollar store and flower clips that I made. They were super cute!
I made this Rapunzel braid out of yarn and added some poke-a-dot purple ribbon to it to add a little girly-ness! I wanted it to hang over the door but I couldn't reach that high...so this was the next best thing. This was the door that our guests had to walk through to get to the party!
For the first activity I set up this paint table. I like having something for the kids to do while other guests are still showing up. This worked perfect and fit in with the Rapunzel story. I told them to paint all the things they love, like Rapunzel does. I got the paints and a huge pack of paint brushes at Hobby Lobby. I brought cardstock for them to paint on and bought flower shaped paint trays that I'm sure will be used in many birthday parties to come! =)
We rented this room at the Rec Center. The most expensive part of this whole party was the rental fee. But it was worth it to have a nice big space to have the party and to be able to invite everyone we wanted to. I decided to cut costs by keeping the tables very plain. I put purple and pink table cloths over them and sprinkled some Rapunzel confetti and called it good!
This was a Pinterest fail! I'm sure everyone has seen the super cute crayon vase with flowers. I thought that would be perfect for a little extra decoration. I bought all of this at the dollar store and tried glueing the crayons on the inside of the vase, it didn't work to say the least. I also waited until the night before the party to put this together, maybe that was the real problem? Either way, I gave up and just dropped the crayons in.
Of course Alexis wants everything to have Rapunzel on it, but I can't stand the tacky decorations they have at the stores with the character plastered on absolutely everything! Gag! But I did cave and let her have plates and napkins that were character themed. Compromise! =)
For our second activity we did a pinata. I thought I could make my own pinata, but who am I kidding? I don't have time for that! I decided to buy the cheapest pinata they had at Party City, printed out a Flynn Rider Wanted Poster and taped it over the "Rockstar" design. It doesn't look perfect, and that bothered me. But it worked. I brought along our small frying pan and told the kids they needed to hit Flynn Rider with the frying pan, like Rapunzel does! They had a lot of fun with this!
For the third activity I set up an obstacle corse and had the kids race! We had everything for this to work and I bought to Princess crowns at the dollar store. I told the kids they had to ride Maximus the horse (Flynn Rider's horse) through the lost forest to find the lost crown, put it on and then race back. I don't know if all the kids understood it all, but they had a blast! And the adults had a good time laughing.
Next was blowing out the candles and opening lots and lots of princess-y gifts! She's a lucky girl to have so many people who love her!
Happy Birthday Alexis! We love you SO much!!
